2960 does not support optical modules

The Catalyst 2960 switch uses SFP modules for fiber-optic and copper uplink ports. Warning Invisible laser radiation may be emitted from disconnected fibers or connectors. Every document I find on Cisco's website seems to indicate that the SFP-GE-S is not supported on the 2960 platform. Does anyone know if this used to be supported, or is currently supported or what? 10-29-2008 01:17 PM. A frequent customer problem with Cisco's new line of Catalyst switches is that they do not support 3rd party (non-Cisco) SFPs - or at least they do not seem to. If you've just replaced your network switches and tried using any 3rd party SFPs to connect your network backbone, you'll quickly. Configuring Cisco 2960X SFP modules involves verifying compatibility, installing the modules correctly, and configuring the interface using the Cisco IOS command-line interface (CLI) to ensure optimal performance; this article will explain how to configure Cisco 2960X SFP modules step-by-step. This article introduces third-party compatible optics solutions for Catalyst 2960-X Series Switches. These field-replaceable modules provide the uplink optical interfaces, laser send (TX) and laser receive (RX).
