Which router uses fiber optic

Not all routers include fiber optic functionality; a fiber-ready router or an ONT is typically required to connect to fiber internet.Understanding Fiber Internet and RoutersFiber optic internet transmits data as light signals through fiber cables, offering high-speed, low-latency connections . Standard routers cannot directly process these light signals. Instead, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) or a fiber modem converts the optical signals into electronic data that a router can handle . This means that while your router distributes internet to devices via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, it relies on the ONT to interface with the fiber line.Fiber-Ready RoutersA fiber-ready router (or fiber router) is designed to work seamlessly with fiber internet. Some models integrate the ONT functionality, simplifying setup by handling the light-to-electrical signal conversion internally . These routers support high-speed data transfer, Gigabit Ethernet, and advanced Wi-Fi standards like Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7, ensuring you can fully utilize the bandwidth provided by fiber . Using a traditional router without fiber compatibility may require an adapter and could limit speed and performance.Key ConsiderationsCompatibility: Ensure your router supports the speeds and standards of your fiber service.Integration: Some ISPs provide a combined ONT/router unit, which both converts fiber signals and broadcasts Wi-Fi .Performance: Fiber routers optimize bandwidth, reduce latency, and handle multiple devices efficiently, which is especially important for gaming, streaming, or large households . In summary, while a standard router can distribute internet from an ONT, routers themselves do not inherently include fiber optic functionality.
