GESTIONVAL ODNODN INFRASTRUCTURE Technical Inquiry

Congo replaces fiber optic cables

Its construction follows the country's recent connection to the 2Africa submarine fibre optic cable, for which it will transport data with a capacity of 10Gb. It will also carry data from the WACS (West Africa Cable System) cable, strengthening Congo's national broadband. The project consists in the construction of 10,000 km of fibre-optic cables as part of a regional backbone in 5 countries, including backbone as well as metro networks. The 5 countries covered by the project are located in Central and Southern Africa and includes: the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Central African Backbone (CAB) sub-regional project, born from the will of the heads of state of the CEMAC zone, aims to put digital technology at the service of the populations, by opening up the isolation of departments and promoting digital inclusion. Failures that frequently occur on this infrastructure cause disruption of Internet services.
